UNIENDO
AMERICA was born in a District Conference in Guatemala in
1991. It is in effect a coordinating office for the Rotary
clubs in Guatemala, formed with two purposes in mind: 1)
To serve as a point of contact for establishing relationships
between Rotary clubs in North America (U.S.A and Canada),
and 2) To aid in the importation of donations from North
America to our clubs in Guatemala.
In 1993 the concept of a PROJECT FAIR was created, and the
logical vehicle for carrying out this yearly activity was
through an expanded UNIENDO AMERICA. Now Honduras has its
own UNIENDO AMERICA and other Central American countries
are working on establishing their own UNIENDO AMERICA.
In l998 The Rotary Foundation authorized
the establishment of a 3-H project at the level of US$500,000
for the purpose of establishing community banks for women
in Central America. Five countries are involved in this
successful program and we have more than one hundred micro-lending
groups working on this project. |
